Pour guérir de la blessure du racisme, Natasha s’est réappropriée sa langue innue et prend la parole dans les médias. Les mots lui font retrouver ses racines et lui insufflent la force pour briser les préjugés. Alors elle engage la conversation. Et au fil de celle-ci, elle questionne ce besoin d’autodétermination, pour elle, mais aussi pour les Autochtones d’ici et d’ailleurs. To heal the wound of racism, Natasha has re-appropriated her Innu language and become a media spokesperson. Words have helped her rediscover her roots and empowered her. She gets the conversation going, and as it develops, she questions the need for self-determination for herself as well as for other Indigenous people both here and elsewhere. EN PRÉSENCE DU RÉALISATEUR LE DIMANCHE 5 AVRIL Au centre des autoroutes de béton, pendant que la vie roule toujours plus vite, une foule bigarrée prend la pause. Ils sont momentanément sortis des tracas du travail, des attentes, des formulaires et des derniers logiciels à acquérir. Sur cette terrasse ensoleillée, comme rescapés d’une gestion de vie de tous les instants, ils dégustent leur café latte. Le temps s’est arrêté. Tout est parfait. Jusqu’à ce que l’attaque frontale d’un système d’alarme de voiture réveille la bête en eux… Le film sera suivi du long métrage Fondations, du même réalisateur.

EN PRÉSENCE DE BENOIT PILON, SÉBASTIEN RICARD ET RÉMY GIRARD PREMIÈRE QUÉBÉCOISE Avec Sébastien Ricard, Rémy Girard, François Papineau, Fabien Cloutier et Émilie Bibeau Le Club Vinland, c’est l’histoire d’un éducateur exceptionnel dans un collège de garçons de l’est du Québec de la fin des années 1940. Adulé de ses élèves, mais perçu comme trop dérangeant par les supérieurs de sa congrégation, le charismatique Frère Jean est un progressiste annonciateur des changements à venir dans le Québec des années 1950 et 1960. Voulant à la fois résoudre une énigme historique, motiver ses élèves et empêcher le décrochage d’Émile, un étudiant en difficultés, Frère Jean entreprend de conduire des fouilles archéologiques visant à prouver l’établissement d’une colonie viking (le Vinland) sur la côte du Saint-Laurent. L’entreprise bouleversera la vie du collège et laissera sa marque sur les destins du jeune Émile – et de Frère Jean lui-même. La projection sera suivie d’une séance de questions-réponses. IN THE PRESENCE OF BENOIT PILON, SÉBASTIEN RICARD AND RÉMY GIRARD QUÉBEC PREMIERE With Sébastien Ricard, Rémy Girard, François Papineau, Fabien Cloutier and Émilie Bibeau Winter 1949.An exceptional teacher, highly devoted to the development of his students, Brother Jean has long been the figurehead of a school for boys in Charlevoix, Québec. Adulated by the young students and supported by the school’s director, Brother Jean exercises a broad leadership and isn’t hesitant to employ unusual educational methods (borrowed from theatre, cinema, scientific research…) to bolster his teaching. A passionate amateur archaeologist, Brother Jean advances a theory that Vikings were established a thousand years earlier along the coast of the St. Lawrence River – the famous Vinland of Norwegian sagas. Although the higher ranks of the congregation sometimes find his methods a tad too inventive, his noticeable success with the young people has earned him the freedom to conduct his research as he pleases. But the arrival of a new student – Émile, a troubled 13-year-old – soon upsets the delicate arrangement. Determined to convince his superiors that he can prevent the boy from dropping out of school, Jean embarks on this new mission with great ardor, even as he redoubles his quest for evidence of the Vikings’ passage, all this in spite of increasing opposition from the congregation’s senior administration.
