Scared for their lives, Afshin, Alain and Patricia left their home countries, alone. As unaccompanied minors, they had to start over in Canada, in hopes to live a better life. Mixing real-life footage and animated sequences, Alone is a tribute to hope: how can a child manage to reinvent himself in a new country, after having left everything behind, even his parents?

Paul Tom Membre du jury | Réalisateur
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION JURY PRESIDENT // Paul Tom, with his trademark sensitivity, has been exploring people’s most intimate stories for the past 10 years. His films give a voice to those who are not always heard, allowing to open up a dialogue and reach out to others. Born in a refugee camp in Thailand, the recurring themes in his work are identity construction, family relationships and all things that touch on a human being’s vulnerability. His films Seul and Bagages have been selected in some 40 festivals around the world and have reaped close to a dozen awards

Mylène Péthel Scénariste
Mylène Péthel is a journalist and screenwriter. In addition to having researched several documentaries, she wrote and directed the podcast Police en service - retour en arrière (Télé-Québec). She was also a script consultant for the series "En Fugue" (Club Illico). The movie "Alone" (Télé-Québec) is her first feature documentary.
