Heartened by that theory, Martin and three of his friends, all weary high school teachers, embark on an experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday. If Churchill won WW2 in a heavy daze of alcohol, who knows what a few drops might do for them and their students? Initial results are positive, and the teachers’ little project turns into a genuine academic study. Both their classes and their results continue to improve, and the group feels alive again! As the units are knocked back, some of the participants see further improvement and others go off the rails. It becomes increasingly clear that while alcohol may have fueled great results in world history, some bold acts carry consequences.

Il trouve un emploi de serveur dans une station touristique kényane, mais une guerre civile se déclare bientôt dans le pays. Il décide alors d’accompagner des réfugiés africains qui tentent de gagner l’Europe dans un bateau de fortune. Pourtant, il ne veut pas rentrer en Italie. One month later he must abandon his business and flee to Africa to avoid paying his debts. He finds work as a waiter at a Kenyan tourist destination, but civil war soon breaks out. Checco decides to go with the refugees trying to migrate to Europe in a makeshift boat, but he does not wish to return to Italy; instead he aims for Liechtenstein, with its low taxes and financial anonymity.

Chez ce médecin, père de famille qui s’inquiète aussi bien du bien-être de ses enfants que de celui des jeunes des classes moins favorisées, on respire un air de vitalité et de créativité fruit d’une éducation basée sur la tolérance et l’amour. Rien ne laisse présager qu’un terrible cancer finira par emporter l’une de ses filles tant aimées. La tristesse et la colère causées par la perte de cet être exceptionnel poussera Héctor à lutter de tout son cœur pour ouvrir les yeux à une société intolérante qui, non seulement reste sourde à son appel, mais qui le poursuivra jusqu’à le réduire au silence. Il s’agit du récit intime de sa vie, selon le point de vue de son seul fils, Héctor Abad Faciolince, l’un des écrivains contemporains colombiens les plus remarquables. Le film de clôture sera précédé de la remise des Prix Cercle d’or Meilleur long métrage de fiction et Meilleur documentaire de l’édition 2021.

CANADIAN PREMIERE Best Spanish Language Foreign Film – Goya Awards – 2021Official Selection – Festival de Cannes – 2020 Based on the eponymous novel El olvido que seremos, this is the story of Héctor Abad Gómez, a profoundly good man, a renowned doctor and defender of human rights, in the riven and violent city of Medellín in the 1970s. A father as well as a doctor, who cares as much for his own children as for those of the city’s poor, he creates a home where guests and residents alike can breathe in an atmosphere of freedom and creativity, the product of an education based on tolerance and affection. It is an entirely unexpected blow when one of his dearly-loved daughters falls victim to a terrible cancer. The sadness and anger he feels at the death of such a soul drive him to fight with all his strength to open the eyes of the intolerant society around him, a society which not only refuses to listen but even seeks to silence him. This is his story, intimately told from the perspective of his only son, Héctor Abad Faciolince, one of Colombia’s most remarkable contemporary authors. The film will be preceded by the presentation of the Prices Cercle d’or Meilleur long métrage de fiction and Cercle d’or Meilleur documentaire of the 2021 Edition.
