Based on the eponymous novel El olvido que seremos, this is the story of Héctor Abad Gómez, a profoundly good man, a renowned doctor and defender of human rights, in the riven and violent city of Medellín in the 1970s. A father as well as a doctor, who cares as much for his own children as for those of the city’s poor, he creates a home where guests and residents alike can breathe in an atmosphere of freedom and creativity, the product of an education based on tolerance and affection. It is an entirely unexpected blow when one of his dearly-loved daughters falls victim to a terrible cancer. The sadness and anger he feels at the death of such a soul drive him to fight with all his strength to open the eyes of the intolerant society around him, a society which not only refuses to listen but even seeks to silence him. This is his story, intimately told from the perspective of his only son, Héctor Abad Faciolince, one of Colombia’s most remarkable contemporary authors.
The film will be preceded by the presentation of the Prices Cercle d’or Meilleur long métrage de fiction and Cercle d’or Meilleur documentaire of the 2021 Edition.
