Join us for a roundtable dedicated to exploring the role of cinema in building social connections and fostering cultural exchange through translation.

Featuring director Alfonso Maiorana (Goddess of Slide: The Forgotten Story of Ellen McIlwaine), Catherine Viau, producer and Head of Film Programming at the FCMS, and Audrey Canalès, professor of audiovisual translation at the Université de Sherbrooke, this discussion will examine how cinema can serve as a powerful catalyst for community building and as a learning tool for translation.

Free activity

The roundtable will be followed by a screening of Goddess of Slide: The Forgotten Story of Ellen McIlwaine by Alfonso Maiorana at 17:00 at La Maison du Cinéma.
Paid screening. More information about the film and ticketing available here.

About the film:
Goddess of Slide: The Forgotten Story of Ellen McIlwaine celebrates the legendary Canadian musician who fought to assert her right to play slide guitar – an instrument dominated by men in a world that is also largely male-dominated.
