As part of the 30th anniversary of L’INIS

Come watch a selection of six short films made by L’inis students. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Namai Kham Po and Christine Doyon.

Hosted by: Vincent Champagne, Director of Communications and Marketing at INIS, and Marie-Lou Béland, Director

On the program:

L’audition by Vanessa-Tatjana Beerli – 5 minutes
Beauty, intelligence, and modesty are among the selection criteria. A Fellini-inspired audition will determine the chosen one—the great man to be.

Tortellini by Kevin Landry – 8 minutes
A team of L’inis students and graduates makes a character evolve through different audiovisual formats, much to the character’s dismay.

L’atelier by Namaï Kham Po – 12 minutes
Kathy Tran (28), of Vietnamese origin, and Agnès Gaudreau (30) are part of the LGBTQIA+ community and both work as mechanics. For Kathy and Agnès, this garage is a place that helps integrate minorities. We observe them through various daily tasks such as repairing a car, changing tires, and interacting with clients. They also share their troubled and violent past in the traditionally male world of auto mechanics, and explain how joining the garage allowed them to fully thrive in their profession and in their lives.

Chevette 83* by Luis Oliva – 4 minutes
Luis is ten years old. His parents, separated for three years, take the whole family to Niagara Falls in their 1983 Chevette. Luis doesn’t understand why.

Wood by Max Dufaud – 15 minutes
Wood is unsettled when a young man he once defeated arrives at his boxing club.

Papa Guillotine by Namaï Kham Po – 15 minutes
In a post-apocalyptic world, Anna lives and works under the control of her father Sylvestre, a hot?tempered mechanic known for ripping the heads off anyone who dares to cross him. Much to Anna’s dismay, Sylvestre believes she is now old enough to follow in his footsteps. As she is forced to decapitate her first victim, will she manage to escape her fate, worthy daughter of her father or not?
