Join us for the screening of the film Koutkekout by Joseph Hillel and take part in a discussion about the film with the director and several experts.
Synopsis : During this time of cholera and street violence, artists in Haiti are using the performing arts as a means of resistance. Even faced with hunger and fear, theatre allows them to highlight the dignity and courage of all Haitian people. Their stories combine fiction with reality. There is theatre everywhere: in the streets, in vodou, and even in politics.

Dominique Forget Co-directrice et chargée de programmes en éducation | Carrefour de solidarité internationale
Dominique is co-director and education program manager at Carrefour de solidarité internationale. Holder of a master's degree in political science and a pedagogy diploma, she contributes to awakening and nurturing the values of solidarity, social justice, democracy and citizen participation among the Estrie population.

Macarena Silva Directrice | Ô Cirque | (Cirque social)
Born in Santiago, Chile, Macarena is a journalist by profession. She has happily immersed herself in the community sector since arriving in Quebec 15 years ago. It was primarily out of curiosity about its mission that she began working as a director at Ô Cirque, the social circus in Sherbrooke. For the past five years, Macarena has been working behind the scenes to promote circus arts to young people as a tool for empowerment and individual and social transformation. In addition, she is responsible for programming and communications at the Waterville Cultural and Community Center, the village where she lives…

Myrla Dabady Secrétaire générale de la Communauté haïtienne de l'Estrie (CHESTRIE) | CHESTRIE (Communauté Haïtienne de l'Estrie)
An entrepreneur and graduate in business administration (entrepreneurship profile) from the University of Sherbrooke, she is the founder of Bongoukwizin, a Caribbean catering service in Sherbrooke. Her background combines academic training, community leadership, and field experience.

Carlos Bernady ANDRE Président de la Communauté Haitienne de l'Estrie (CHESTRIE) | Communauté Haitienne de l'Estrie (CHESTRIE)
Born in Haiti, Carlos navigates between two worlds: that of numbers and that of souls. A banker by day, he orchestrates strategies and balances with precision. A cultural leader by night, he brings to life the memory and future of a people. As President of the Haitian community of Estrie, he carries Haiti like a light proud, indomitable, and creative. His commitment is a living work where heritage, solidarity, and vision converge. Through every event, he weaves invisible bonds between cultures, convinced that true prosperity is measured in impact, dignity, and shared humanity.

Joseph Hillel Director and producer
Joseph Hillel was born in Port-au-Prince and lives in Montreal. He writes, directs, and produces documentary films. Among these are Ordinaire ou Super (2004), Karsh Is History (2009), Ayiti Toma (2013), Rêveuses de villes (2018), and Koutkekout (2024). His most recent film, a documentary on Haitian immigration to Quebec, Tricoté serré crépu, is available on Ici Tou.tv.
