Marie-Lou Béland

With an unusual background, Marie-Lou Béland began her filmmaking career as a self-taught artist driven by passion. Originally trained as a special education teacher, she returned to school to complete a bachelor’s degree in film at UQAM. Her background in special education also influences her projects, her subjects, her desire to tell people’s stories, and her desire to make films that will have an impact on society and perhaps bring about change. Her studies, both in humanities and cinema, have shaped her into someone who wants to convey social messages on the Quebec public stage.
