With a university education in communication and filmmaking, Johanne Bergeron initially made her way in the private sector. From 1992 to 1999, she thrived at Vent d’Est Films. In 1999, she started at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) as a line producer and was named producer in 2007. In 2009 she joined the Quebec Studio, where she continues to develop documentary film projects. In addition to serving on the board of directors of the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM) from 2002 to 2006, Johanne Bergeron enriched the partnership between the NFB and UQAM’s René-Malo chair by establishing, as early as 2010, the Most Promising Documentary Filmmaker competition. In 2014, she rallied the NFB, SODEC and the Conseil des arts de Montréal to launch the « Regard sur Montréal » residency, intended for emerging filmmakers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
