Bassima and Fouad, a couple of undocumented Syrian immigrants, live in Montréal working precarious jobs and smuggling foreign cigarettes. They love each other and are determined to build a life and integrate into society. But when Fouad is arrested and deported back to their war?torn country, Bassima finds herself on the streets. Completely destitute yet determined to bring her husband back using a false passport, she secretly agrees to become a surrogate mother for a wealthy couple. However, an unexpected event shatters her plans, and Bassima—who has always relied solely on herself to survive—realizes she must find allies if she hopes to save her own life and that of her unborn child.
