As a French teacher in a secular Brussels school, Amal encourages her pupils to cultivate a passion for reading, to demand freedom of expression and to advocate acceptance of others. But her outspokenness upsets the Muslim community, which vehemently opposes her teaching methods. Nevertheless, Amal stands her ground and doesn’t let fear get the better of her. Especially when she has to come to the aid of one of her students, the discreet Monia, who, suspected of being homosexual, is attacked, harassed and threatened.
