Allah Is Not ObligedAllah n'est pas obligé

Birahima, a Guinean orphan of only ten years of age, tells the story of how he became a child soldier when he tried to join his aunt in Liberia with the help of four dictionaries and heavy irony. Yacouba, a scoundrel who accompanies him, convinces him to become a child soldier, while he sets himself up as a grigriman, or fetish priest, among the fighters. In the midst of chaos, tossed between numerous enemy factions, Birahima grows up quickly and learns to distrust the stories he is told.
